Color eReaders on the Way
Me, I want more screen real estate. Rendition of the letter size format would be nice please. But others are really wanting COLOR. I guess if you subscribe to a lot of magazines and want to go digital it makes sense. But don’ t fear, tech marches forward and color is on the roadmap with a lot of suppliers. Another marching that direction is iRex –
E-reader maker iRex promises to deliver a high-tech color, writable ebook reader by 2011. They claim that this device would have a brightness level three times that of the existing additive color electrophoretic displays, thanks to a system of subtractive color mixing.
At > $700 the DR1000 is not cheap. A video review available at Forbes. The fact is eReaders and laptops tops with eReader capabilities will become a dominate distribution method for ‘printed’ content. Add color to the mix and the emphasis becomes even greater. The thing we can be thankful for is the ole ‘S’ tech curve. As the adoption rate increases the unit costs start to drop. Its not far fetched to see color eReaders in the $400 range by 2011-12 time frame. Laptops with eReader capability even sooner.
