A peek at Google’s Linux distro: Chrome OS

Google shareholders and the “press” got a peek at the much ballyhood OS. Thanks to the inherent openness of the internet, non-shareholders can eavesdrop here.

Can Google give Linux the final push onto the desktop to unseat Microsoft? It’s too early to say, but using Google’s deep pockets to promote it at the free price point certainly could have an impact. Placing Crome OS most in doubt is its complete departure from local apps and storage. Not everyone is ready to put their entire life in the cloud.  Google also lacks the strongest ploy in the Microsoft’s bag of tricks: Strong-arming PC makers and retailers. It will be very interesting to see how the OS landscape changes by this time next year.
